Emotion Pictures
"I have moved more earnestly into film making. I enjoy it more than any artistic or creative enterprise I've ever known. It's visual storytelling, and it can be a most compelling and emotional medium." Click here to see Gary's latest film for United Way Services of Dubuque. |

Dig this: Gary takes a painting course from Donna Dewberry!
The famous artist whose "One-Stroke" painting method made popular on Public Television, held a certification course in Springfield, Illinois this past summer, and Gary's wife, Linda, was enrolled (she's an accomplished decorative painter). Gary decided to tag along, and filled an empty space in the class. See the photos of this incredible experience. "I'll never paint foliage the same way again," says Gary. Click here. |

The
Richwoods Knights Logo I do a lot of logos gor schools,
and this is one of my best. This Peoria, Illinois school has a logo
here that is flexible for a variety of applications including screen
printing, signage, embroidery, and print publishing.
As a bonus,
here's a link to the scratch
page I used to explore variations on this logo with the
client. It's pretty cool.
|
|

The
Ark logo A terrific logo I designed for an organization
in our town. See how this design evolved from a simple drawing to
a finished project.
|
|

Dubuque
365 TV I developed a logo for Dubuque365.com, a city-wide
information service Web site for Dubuque. I came up with this jazzy
logo for a TV production venture I'm involved in. It's pretty cool.

|

Dubuque
Community School District This is where I'm the Web master.
This is the most complex project I've ever done austensibly by myself.
All the graphics in the site are mine. I built the pages, designed
the navigation and interaction, performed and produced TV and Audio
programs within the site, and I maintain each and every one of the
nearly 1500 pages.

Clarke
Multimedia Bootcamp Headquarters Page It's my class home
page. It needs some work, but it's getting the job done.
|
|

This
is the Hansel Realty Logo Page It is a page I'm particularly
proud of because it represents how I manage logo files for customers
like Dave Hansel. Not only do I design a logo, look and feel for
his company, but I provide a storage and dispensing facility online
of logo files continually updated for the many vendors that need
logos for various applications. Now they can get them from the Web.
No messy disks.

The
International Broadcasters Idea Bank Logo Page It's the
same kind of deal but for this international organization of broadcasters
who exchange ideas for promotions. One of my best logos.

 |

The
Jack Jenney Music Festival Image Archive It's a magnificent
collection of graphics I scanned or photographed and keep in perpetuity
on the Web for this annual event.
|
|

More
Jack Jenney Material Just some logo work. I think this is
a pretty good effort, but I'm going to redesign the logo for next
year's festival because a vertical design like this is kind of difficult
to apply in some cases. I don't know. Anyway, the name is changing
to the The Jack Jenney Music Festival. The variety of music will
be a little broader, which is a good thing.

Kirchhoff
Distributing Company Logo Page The Budweiser distributor
in our area asked me to redo their logo. Great job since I like
beer (yes, I went to college), and the Kirchhoffs are wonderful
to work with. This was a totally collaborative effort, and the logo
must be evocative of their valuable trademarks in the beverage business
(brand is everything). I can hardly wait to see this logo on the
side a a big beer truck. Let's celebrate with a Bud.

children.

as an example of how I work with clients on trademark and logo design.

Millennium
The Millenium Project includes material developed while I was working
on this incredible collage that took six months to build. It was
an incredible success, and one of my most popular commercial pieces.

Music
& More Logo Program It's a kick-ass logo I designed
for my friend who started a company to bring music and bands to
our town. I love how the guitar is cut out of the lettering in this.
I drew the guitar from scratch.

Radio
Dubuque is the graphic management page I maintain for this
owner of three radio stations in the Dubuque market. This is a terrific
example of how I work with my clients using the Internet as a virtual
studio. My clients really enjoy the flexibility and convenience
of this service I provide. Go here and find out what I'm talking
about.

Rotary
Club Graphic Files I'm the graphic designer for our Rotary
Club. I get to do some interesting things since we are a very active
club in our city. We sponsor more events than any other service
club. If I'm not designing a new logo or graphic, I'm doing posters,
signage, you name it. I enjoy this aspect of my community life because
I have no boundaries and can exercise as much creativity as I want.

Gary
Olsen's Motion Pictures I'm just getting into this field.
I have a passion for digital video. I have at my disposal just terrific
equipment, and I'm shooting video every chance I get, especially in
my capacity with the Dubuque School District. In any event, I plan
on expanding my capabilities and repertoir in this art form. I have
a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop and I'm editing video on it which is extremely
cool. More on this is available at my Gary Olsen Motion Pictures Web
page. |

Stained
Glass Project This was an epic project that involved Bryce
Parks and featuring some of the finest examples of stained glass
in the city.

A
Client Pitch that Failed I was asked by a local ski area
for some graphic assistance on a brochure and possible logo redesign,
but things didn't work out. Sometimes this happens, but we move
on. I left the pitch page up on the Web because I think it's a wonderful
example of how I work with clients by wire. I thought we did a good
job on this, but sometimes things just don't go like you hoped they
would. I hate to waste, so I present it here as a learning aid for
my classes in Web and Advertising Design at Clarke College. It remains
handy on the Web where students can bring it up and study it.

Summerfest
Logo Page Cool logo I did for SummerFest more than a year
ago, and they've been using it ever since. |
|

Swingfest
Logo Page This is my first crack at redesigning the logo
for the annual event called Swingfest. I love this because it looks
like a logo on a '56 Chevy Belair.

Web
Work Groups: This is a new concept I've developed with my
buddy, Charlie Ellis from the School District. He came up with the
name, and I've expanded on it to suit my various purposes. Web Workgroups
are a virtual meeting space where people can gather and share ideas,
papers, graphics, anything that can be stored on a server. Check
out some of these.
