"Gary Olsen's logos and signage instantly project an image that provides a visual "memory capsule" for even the casual observer. I can't image anyone doing a better job of graphically defining the true spirit and vitality of our community."
--Paul Hemmer, Radio Dubuque

elcome to Gary Olsen's Wayfinding Project Design RFP Web site. It contains my final designs for the Wayfinding Sign project. These signs will mark districts in our city that have a unique, almost trademark character.

My objective here was to first develop some analogous colors that serve as a color key the viewer can distinguish and associate with each of the districts. Though these colors are different, they are actually very close in value with each other so that the lettering can stand out in reverse. It's important to maintain maximum contrast to enable visibility from a distance.

At right is the Pantone Master Color Chart for the entire set. The color chart is included on each object file for color separation and manipulation by the manufacturer if adjustments are required.

To the Bidding Manufacturer

The object files of the above designs plus the IDOT sample in object format are available to download in a single self-extracting archive file. Just download it, extract it, and you can open the files one by one. There are seven files total. Spot color and CMYK equivalents are on each of the design which when unstuffed are in .eps format.

How to open them once unstuffed:

The files are .eps or Encapsulated PostScript. This means they are object files or graphics comprised of vectors, lines and fills. They are infinitely scalable which means you can make them any size you wish without any loss in resolution. You can open them in Quark Xpress, Macromedia FreeHand, Adobe Illustrator, and any program that will handle .eps files including many software programs that work directly with manufacturing equipment like embroidery machines, stencil and vinyl cutting equipment, and plotting devices. Okay, if you have any problems or questions concerning this file or any of the details pertaining to this project, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call me: 563-588-5106.
