his
is a printable page with which class members can keep track of student
requirements. Each student must spend a minimum of four hours in the
field with the instructor in a field shooting situation, performing all
three disciplines... lighting, audio and camera work. This time may
also include
transfer of video from cameras to nonlinear editing systems. The "X"
represents a shooting day of no less than 1 hour.
Click here to view the 8 minute screen test of the classmembers. As you can see, they are fine specimans each and every one. Their talents are obvious, and there is probably not one student you would consider below average (height that is). The video is in Windows Media Player format. |
Your Final Exam:
Be in class on Thursday December 1 for special instructions concerning this exam.
Students have one final obligation before the course closes for the semester. This is a five question exam that you must take individually (no collaboration, please). Most of the questions have to do with common sense practices that you would have learned in class, but particularly on location shoots and recording opportunities. If you served on a crew, this exam will be easy. If you didn't, then this will be difficult. The exam counts for 25% of your final grade for the course, and it's worth a total of 100 points. Instructions:
(1) You will click on the icon above (or here) to download the exam. Do not begin filling out the exam. Save it to a personal drive or directory first.
(2) Once you've successfully downloaded the exam, open it in Microsoft Word. The image you see here is what you should see when you deploy the exam file. If it doesn't look like this, see instruction #3.
(3) To view the exam properly make sure your Word document is in the "print preview" mode by going to the "view menu" and selecting "print preview rather than "normal." Also it's a good idea to set your "zoom" menu to 100%. This will give you a comfortable view of the entire page and minimize your need to scroll.
(4) Complete the exam to the best of your ability, and save often. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR EXAM USING YOUR NAME IN THE FILE NAME AS ILLUSTRATED BY THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLES: Shawfinal.doc or Peckhamfinal.doc.
(5) After you've completed the exam, you must send it back to the instructor for grading. Open an e-mail, and address it to the following e-mail address: olsega@mchsi.com. This is different from previous e-mail addresses you may have used, so don't make a mistake and send it to the wrong address.
(6) Your deadline for completing this exam is Thursday, December 8 by 1:30 PM. Failure to return the completed exam on time will result in a 10 point deduction for each day it's late.
(7) There will be no collaboration among students taking this exam. You run a tremendous risk by copying other students' answers to this test because it will be relatively easy to discover the misdeed. This test is based less on facts and more on applied learning. The exam reflects what has been taught in class but particularly what has been taught in the field. Some of the answers can be obtained by referring to this website which you are encouraged to do. The sin is not knowing the correct answer, but not knowing how to find the correct answer.
Good luck.

Student Crews |
Instrument Night at Jefferson Middle School |
|
Kerry Sivia, Ebonee Shaw and Lindsey Reiter produced this show for Mediacom Cable. This is a very funny video. |
Project Concern |
|
Several students participated in this worthwhile documentary on Project Concern including Gwen Hayes, Lindsey Reiter, Mike Dalsing and Ebonee Shaw. |
Rotary Club Meetings |
|
These were all the students who participated in our audio recording sessions at Dubuque Rotary Club. The challenge in recording an entire room full of Rotarians is strategic microphone placement. We placed an omini directional mic at the head of the room to capture the speakers, and a roving boom microphone to capture the audience participation. |
High School House Documentary Series
|
|
Ebonee Shaw, Gwen Hayes, Mike Dalsing and Lindsey Reiter helped on this television series in which high school kids build a real house. |
Grand Opening of the Pet Park in Dubuque |
|
Look! That's Andrea Ternes on camera interviewing Sue Barnes of the Animal Control Department for the City of Dubuque! And that's Tanner the dog! |
Grand Opening Tour of the Hilton Garden Inn |
|
Andy Pecham and Andrea Ternes toured and filmed the fabulous new Hilton Garden Inn Grand Opening. This is the host of the show, Shannon Gaherty. |
Grand Opening of Stetson Building Products |
|
Andrea Ternes video taped this tour and demonstration by a building products supplier at Stetson Building Products' Ribbon Cutting and mini-trade show. |
More Dubuque Ambassador Events... Abadent, Catfish Charlie's, Mercy's Heart Unit, Five Flags Civic Center
|
|
Several classmembers participated in these events sponsored by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dubuque Ambassadors.
They included Abadent Cosmetic Dentistry's Grand Opening, the ribbon cutting for Catfish Charlie's, the Heart Center at Mercy Medical, and the Grand Opening of the remodelled Five Flags Civic Center.
The Civic Center gig was fantastic. Mike Dalsing, Nate Lech and Rachel Ward did an outstanding job on this very challenging shoot.
|
The Governor and First Lady Press Conference at Loras College |
|
Andy Peckham helped shoot this project, and he did an incredible job on camera. |
Clarke College Dedication of Gantz Plaza |
|
Several students participated in this including Kerry, Andy, Nate, Lindsey, and Rachel. Very challenging in terms of sound and light. The event was scheduled for late in the afternoon as the sun was going down. |
