Farmers' Market Animation

by Frank Bisek

I met Frank at the University of Dubuque (my alma mater), where I was looking for a video editor to help on a project I was producing for Finley Hospital. All I was looking for was someone who could do a reasonably good job of editing my medical show for kids, "Doctor! Doctor!" Since we worked together in the same office, we got to know one another, and I soon discovered the spectrum of talent and experience this guy had.

Frank is a UD Computer Graphics major where the emphasis is on interactive gaming, instruction, and graphics to support that programming. But visual storytelling is all part of the curriculum, and so is editing. Frank is an expert with Adobe Creative Suite. I've been around a long time as a graphic designer and producer, but I've never had adequate time to be a good animator. I needed some collaboration, so I took my computer graphics and video footage, gave them to Frank, and he made magic happen. We were a prefect team on this one.

Production Note and Acknowledgements:

I had an approximate idea of what I wanted to use for music for the opening. An old friend and colleague of mine, Eric Faramus, used to have a band that played Cajun or Creole-style Zydeco music... you know, a fiddle washboard... dancable, the kind of stuff that make you want to eat a crawfish. I new he recorded a couple of CDs, so I gave him a call. Eric's band was called "We're Late and Smell Like Beer." Honest to God. The band broke up (too bad), but their music lives on as the soundtrack for this animation. It couldn't be more perfect. --Gary Olsen
